In a harmonious collaboration, The Group Wines, an Australian co-op comprising 100 dedicated wine growers, has partnered with Starward to unveil a limited edition of whisky barrel-aged Shiraz, exclusively available through Coles Liquor Group.

Dubbed 'The Crash,' this exceptional McLaren Vale Shiraz bears the mark of quality, having been meticulously aged in Starward Two-Fold Whisky barrels. Wine enthusiasts can savour this unique creation at select locations, including Liquorland and First Choice Liquor Market.

The development of 'The Crash' is a testament to the alchemical interplay between Starward's Two-Fold barrels and the full-bodied Shiraz from McLaren Vale. The whisky barrels impart delightful, lingering notes of toasted oak, vanilla, and spice, elegantly complementing the Shiraz's rich palette of flavours, characterized by blackberry and ripe orchard fruits.

Starward's Two-Fold double-grain whisky is a masterpiece in itself, crafted by blending Australian barley and wheat. This exceptional spirit matures in American and French Oak barrels previously cradling Australian red wine.

Paula Edwards, a winegrower with The Group, expressed the growing demand for locally crafted boutique wines and whiskies, particularly among younger consumers seeking authenticity. She emphasized the collaborative spirit within The Group, involving a diverse range of wine growers, vineyards, and styles. Their partnership with Starward, known for its innovative approach to whisky production, has resulted in something truly unique for Coles Liquor Group customers.

Edwards summarized their philosophy as "Collectively Better," which underpins their commitment to pushing boundaries, supporting growers, and fostering the long-term vitality of vineyards.

David Vitale, founder of Starward, expressed his excitement about the collaboration and their shared values. He highlighted the importance of a circular economy in repurposing whisky barrels, enriching both their whisky and other products. The infusion of Melbourne-made, whisky-soaked barrels into 'The Crash' exemplifies this commitment to sustainability.

'The Crash' limited range made its debut on August 1, 2023, with a recommended retail price of $30. This collaboration between The Group and Starward brings to life a distinct wine experience, where the heritage of whisky-making and the art of winemaking converge in a bottle that's set to delight connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.
